LA28 in Long Beach: The Venues and Sports as Published, the Games Dates, Paralympic Dates and What Is Not Yet Known About Transport

In brief

The City of Long Beach says Long Beach “will stage 11 Olympic sporting events and seven Paralympic sporting events”; its list puts the Olympic events at July 12-29, 2028 and the Paralympic events at August 16-27, 2028. No spectator transport, parking or road-closure plan for Long Beach has been published; the City says detailed timelines “will be provided in the months leading up to the 2028 Games”.

  • Venues: seven names on LA28’s venue page for the Long Beach zone, from Marine Stadium to the Long Beach Climbing Theater3.
  • Olympic Games window: the City gives July 14-30 for the Games, yet its Long Beach list starts July 121.
  • Tickets: LA28 says first-come, first-served Olympic tickets and the first Paralympic ticket drop come “in 2027”, with no dates4.
  • Parking and closures: not published; set-up and beach parking “will depend on the specific requirements” and are subject to California Coastal Commission review2.
  • “Sports park”: a provisional planning area in Metro’s 2023 mobility plan, not a City project7.

Long Beach hotels on Booking.com

This page lists what the City of Long Beach and LA28 publish about Long Beach as a venue city for the 2028 Games, as of October 2026, and says where the published material stops. For the city’s existing access points, see the section pillar, Getting In and Out of Long Beach.

Sources are limited to the City’s LA28 pages and la28.org, plus one Metro planning document for the “sports park” term. Neither the City nor LA28 gives walking times, parking rules or closure lists, so none is given here.

The venues

LA28’s venue page names seven venues in the Long Beach zone: “Marine Stadium”, “Belmont Shore”, “Long Beach Arena”, “Long Beach Target Shooting Hall”, “Long Beach Aquatics Center”, “Alamitos Beach Stadium” and “Long Beach Climbing Theater”. The page lists names only, with no sports or dates3. The City’s list below uses the same names1.

The Olympic sports and dates

The City says the Olympic Games are “taking place July 14-30” and that its 11 Olympic sporting events “encompass 161 ticketed events, including 35 final matches, spanning 17 of the 19 days of the Olympic Games”1.

Sport Venue Dates, 2028

Good to know The City’s page gives the Olympic Games as July 14-30, while its own Long Beach list begins on July 12 with water polo and handball. The page does not explain the two days1. Competition in Long Beach starts July 12 on that list.

The Paralympic sports and dates

The City gives the Paralympic Games as “Aug. 15-27” and lists seven Long Beach sports1.

Sport Venue Dates, 2028
Shooting Para Sport Target Shooting Hall August 16-24
Para Swimming Aquatics Center August 17-26
Sitting Volleyball Arena August 17-27
Para Rowing Marine Stadium August 18-20
Blind Football (Soccer) Alamitos Beach Stadium August 20-27
Para Paddle Marine Stadium August 24-26
Para Climbing Climbing Theater August 24-27

Source:1, as of October 2026. The City adds that “Para Climbing will make its Paralympic Games debut in Long Beach”1.

What you may have heard Triathlon and BMX do not appear on the City’s current list of Long Beach sports, and LA28’s venue page gives no sports at all, so no source here places either in Long Beach13.

What is not yet published

The City calls its page “the City of Long Beach’s official communications hub” and says “Information will be updated periodically”1. Its FAQ is more specific about what is missing2:

  • Closures and parking. “Detailed timelines regarding closures and parking impacts will be provided in the months leading up to the 2028 Games.”
  • Beach parking and bike paths during set-up. These “will depend on the specific requirements”, and “Specific phasing and use of venue areas are subject to change through California Coastal Commission review.”
  • Agreements. Venue Use Agreements and Venue Services Agreements “are expected to be negotiated and executed by October 1, 2027”.

LA28’s page on getting around says spectators “will have the flexibility to utilize a variety of transport options throughout their journey to the Games, including public transportation, venue-serving shuttle stops and park-and-ride options”, and asks readers to “Return to this page regularly for updates”5. It names no Long Beach routes or stops.

A community survey on the City’s page ran “through Sept. 30, 2026”, and the contact for questions is [email protected]1.

The "sports park" term

A “Long Beach sports park plan” appears in Metro’s Mobility Concept Plan of June 2023, not on the City’s pages, and it is a transport-planning term rather than a park project. The plan lists “Long Beach Sports Park” among six areas analysed for walking and rolling links between transit and venues, and shows “Long Beach: 55K Max Capacity*”. Its footnote reads “Based on the maximum gross venue spectator capacity per session identified in the bid book … Capacity and venues are subject to change”7.

The plan predates the final venue list, so its Long Beach geography is provisional. It also says venue overlay “will start construction six months before the Games and intensify in the last three months”, with “road closures, detours, and other roadway impacts”7. That is a planning statement from 2023, not a Long Beach closure schedule.

Tickets and travel

LA28’s ticketing page says: “The Next Opportunities to Purchase LA28 Tickets Will Be In 2027.” It adds that “Drop 2 was the final general public ticket drop of 2026” and that first-come, first-served Olympic tickets will go on sale in 2027 “along with the very first Paralympic Ticket Drop”4. No 2027 dates are given.

The travel page lists LGB among the airports serving the region and says flights “will become available 12 months in advance”6. The airport’s own page is in Long Beach Airport Guide; the A Line, buses and bikes are in Long Beach Without a Car.

Hotels

The City and LA28 pages read for this guide give no hotel rates or room blocks for Long Beach venues. Hotels near downtown, with their own addresses and parking, are in Hotels Within Walking Distance of the Long Beach Convention Center. The site earns a commission on some hotel, ticket, transfer and parking links, which does not affect what is recommended.
